5 Simple Ways To Jump Start Spring

There’s something refreshing about the days getting a bit longer, brighter & the air becoming warmer. Opening the windows & allowing the warm breeze to refresh the home, embracing extra spring cleaning & displaying florals for a sense of nature. Being someone who has been practicing the simple life, I find spring to be the perfect time to reflect, refresh & regain a sense of control of our clutter filled baggage. Luckily, there are tons of simple ways to refresh your life for spring & possibly start a new. Here’s how…

Refresh Your Home From Top to Bottom

This is the perfect season to conduct a full blown sweep of your space. This means vacuuming as well as cleaning the baseboards. Go through every single drawer & corner of your home & ask yourself if anything needs shifting. I always tend to find a few unwanted items to donate, trash & even sell. It’s important to cycle through your items & make space for the new.

I tend to downsize my decor at this time after the sweep of holidays that occur during the winter. I’ll even go one step further & downsize any decor that is placed in storage like from previous holidays.

Formulate Your Style

I love decluttering my closet & creating seasonal capsule wardrobes. This spring I plan to incorporate more bright colors & floral prints to embrace these warmer days. In the spring, I tend to take everything out of my closet, hold each piece up & ask myself if I still wish to own the item. More bulky items like sweaters & coats are put away in storage or a spare closet within our home.

This way, I can make space for pieces that coincide with the season at hand. I also love to experiment with my style at this time & determine if there are new items I’d like to add. I don’t necessarily like to over shop, but I do like to treat myself to a few fresh items.

Change Up Your Digital Aesthetic

Digital declutters are just as important as declutters within our homes. I tend to refresh accounts I’m following, creatively brainstorm photo ideas & even delete or clean up ones I no longer want shared. I try to stay rather intentional with my digital space these days by posting less frequently & even living more so outside the world of social media. This is a perfect time to establish healthier screen time habits. Our mental health is strongly affected by social media whether we want to believe it or not, so if you find yourself drained of certain social media platforms, this may be the season to delete or cut back on these apps.

Plan A Few Fun Adventures

One of my goals for this year is to travel more often. My husband & I have already brainstormed a few beach vacations for the summer months as well as a Caribbean cruise. I’d also love to travel to a few other places with my brother & family including Chicago, Salem, & Europe.I believe it’s important to plan a few adventures to look forward to & to break up our humdrum routines. You can even choose more simple adventures like local hikes, sport activities or bed & breakfasts.

Check in With Yourself & Your Goals

Since we are a few months into the year, it’s a great time to reflect on those new year goals & determine if anything needs to be tweaked. With each season, I like to have a self care moment with myself, see how I’m doing & determine if there’s growth needed to be down or not. In most cases, there is always room for improvement. But I also like to reflect & celebrate any wins I may have had along the way.

  1. I love this prompt to declutter both around the house and digital! Thank you! I have plants to give away now, some clothes, and books. I have been giving away many books over the last five years, but I still have a few left.
As for digital, I started three high level folders and it has helped me organize new stuff: Incoming, Outgoing, Practices (which are things that prompt me to take action on any new habits I am integrating into my day-to-day).

  2. Setting up some adventures is actually a good idea, and reminds me that my partner wanted to check out a catacombs they read about but which we haven’t been able to make time for. Spring would be a good time to do that, so thanks for the reminder

  3. You had me at ‘adventures’ and ‘goals’! Exactly what I’m planing. I always like to review my intentions at the start of the year and seeing what needs adjusting. Plus, summer planning 😀

  4. These are great ideas! I definitely want to do a spring cleaning of our apartment and also declutter my wardrobe. I’ve recently done a digital declutter and deleted old emails, files on my computer, and photos on my phone, and that’s a good reminder to have healthier screen time habits.
