ACCOMPLISHING SET GOALS

There is something about setting goals that causes us to work toward getting them accomplished. With this in mind, let’s consider what kind of goals we can set right now and work at getting them done perhaps even before the end of this year.

I like to think of goal setting as a challenge. Setting goals can include a number of things in our everyday life. We can set these goals with a mindset that would include baby steps. We must be realistic to accomplish any goal we set. Personally, I have seen when the goal was set too high, it can feel quite impossible to accomplish.

What can be some goals we set out to accomplish? Well, this can realistically include a number of things. Just because it is not New Year’s Day, when so many try to set resolutions for another year, does not mean you cannot begin right now, right where you are. I like to think of each day as another opportunity to change and do things even better than we did before.

Let’s choose not to regret what we could do today because tomorrow is not promised. We all have experienced a unique year with this worldwide virus and some things perhaps for some, had to immediately change. There are things we hoped we would have accomplished but had to re-evaluate and do things very differently. The point is that we set out to create new goals to accomplish as we all had to make these unexpected changes. It has been incredible to see that when something that can really harm us, so many have had to be creative in order to remain on top of things. This not only demonstrated creative abilities on another level but an opportunity to do things differently.

Accomplishing goals comes from a mindset to do so. It is one thing to set a goal and another to fulfill it. The rewards are incredible no matter how much effort it took to do so. Whether you want to adjust to include exercise, change your eating habits, lose some weight, come out of debt, make wise investments, travel, become a better listener, do well in school, get a new job, or you name the goal you honestly would like to accomplish, why not begin today? It is not about anybody else at this point but yourself to decide to set goals and realistically consider how to accomplish them.

Share some of your realistic goals that you are ready to attempt to accomplish this year. It is great to first admit the desire to accomplish and then consider how to begin to input them into your life. I also would suggest a mentor and/or individual whom you can be accountable to in order to accomplish your set goals. You can begin strong and then slowly drift from them.  Many things can affect your diminishing accomplishments, but rather than staying on what you haven’t done, admit the need to get back up and keep going. I would honestly love to hear from you, on your journey to accomplishing your goals.

Thank you @mindbeautysimplicity for the opportunity to share my blogpost as a guest.

About me: Over time, I have come to realize that we must take pauses or we are just experiencing life passing us by quickly! Everyday there are several moments we can perhaps all talk about and be an encouragement to someone else with.

How To Be More Intentional As a Blogger

As a blogger, it’s incredibly easy to be on the grind 24 hours a day & 7 days a week. Especially when it starts out as a passion, sometimes that energy causes you to be a bit obsessive about it. Or maybe I’m just projecting. Recently, I wanted to be more intentional with my time when it came to blogging. I’ve managed to be this way with the rest of my life, but when it came to blogging, I didn’t know how to step back, create a schedule & breathe. So, today I wanted to share with you some things I’ve learned to become more present in my blogging career & I figured other bloggers could relate.

REALIZE YOU ARE IN CHARGE OF YOUR TIME

Chances are if you are a blogger with your own site, you are your own boss. You make your schedule, your to-do list & your overall routine. It’s both a wonderful & difficult thing when the only one you need to answer to is yourself. And with that, you need to be responsible with how you conduct your time. From my personal experience , I can really work myself to the bone. Especially when I’m doing something that doesn’t necessarily feel like work, I forget to take breaks. When I’m passionate about something I can almost become obsessive. And I feel like a lot of creative souls have this same mentality. On good days, this is what drives our success. But we need to work smarter instead of harder. No amount of success is truly worth it if your mental wellbeing is in jeopardy. So, be sure to set some time where you put away the laptop, go charge your phone & spend quality time with others or even with yourself unplugged. I recently decided to follow suit of another blogger, Restless I Roam who does #SocialmediadetoxSundays & be completely off socials one day a week. This time away can actually better fuel your creativity & inspiration.

DON’T BE ON SOCIAL MEDIA ALL DAY

Like I was saying, being on social media all day everyday isn’t healthy. And as much of a obvious statement that is, I’m sure we’ve all had days where all we do is scroll, like & follow. And we finally check the time & our entire day is lost. As a blogger, social media is how we succeed. We can’t just write a blog post & let it sit in hopes the world will find it. A huge part of blogging is promoting your work. My saving grace was learning you can actually schedule out your content, tweets & posts. The thought of having my social media platforms act as a ghost & promote my work while I’m out doing other things is magic to my ears. Ever since I started scheduling my tweets, I felt like a superhero of multitasking. And personally, I find social media to be a waste of time if you let it. Granted, the blogging community is a wonderful group of people & interacting with you all especially during such isolating times has been a gift. But with everything in life, you need to have balance. And I felt like I personally needed to make room for other priorities. Not to mention, taking breaks from the digital world is quite freeing & eye opening. Sometimes you just need to leave the desk & get outside.

IT’S OK IF YOU DON’T REPLY BACK TO EVERYONE

I think the biggest task in blogging that not a lot of people talk about is the process of replying to comments. I thought replying to the five comments I received in my first month was tough. But when it started jumping to 50+ comments, mentions & DM’s on all platforms, it was quite overwhelming. And I’m not trying to sound like I’m complaining because believe me, the fact that anyone cares to read & let alone comment on my work is amazing to me. So, please keep doing it. But I did realize it’s ok not to reply back right away. I would seriously feel bad if someone’s comment ended up in spam or I simply forgot. But now, I give myself more time & eventually I will get back to most of you. But know, even if I don’t reply, I appreciate all your words & support.

PLAN OUT TIME FOR YOU & OTHERS

I get it, blogging is a lot of fun & I love spending my time writing, planning & creating. But you NEED to step away from your passion a few hours each day & focus on quality time. Whether it’s watching a specific show in the evening with my boyfriend, cooking together or even just reading a book ; it’s so important to have other priorities. As much as I love what I do, I need to not let it consume me either. Success doesn’t happen in a night, unless you are a viral internet video. I digress. But usually things take time. I plan to write & blog for a long time. So, there’s no need to overwhelm myself by writing constantly. Quality over quantity is my motto. And part of being a great writer is living & taking in this moments so then later you can come back & tell your story.

REFOCUS YOUR INTENTIONS

I got caught up with the numbers game of it all & lost track of my initial purpose of starting this blog in the first place. And although being ambitious & setting goals is important, I was becoming way too critical of myself. As a minimalist, I was not embodying those habits on my social media & the fun of blogging was losing its luster. So, it’s important to ask yourself what you want your readers to get out of your content & if you are being true to yourself in the process. I took a little step back around Valentines Day (a week to be exact) & reflected on my purpose. And that time away reset my journey. My goal is to keep my feed & my posts as positive & real as possible.

HAVE FUN

Whether you make money blogging or not, you started on this journey because it brought you happiness. Don’t lose that passion. I was upset I was headed in that toxic direction with numbers so early on but I’m glad I caught it when I did. I want to write about things I enjoy & the readers that stay are the loyal ones. And I’m understanding it’s ok when there are people who may not enjoy what I write about. That’s life. I’m just here because I love writing & inspiring others. Everything else is a bonus.

I hope these tips help you in your own blogging journey. I think we all need that reality check sometimes. I have a question for you all, what made you start blogging?

Guest Post: 5 Self Care Habits For Living A Healthy Life Daily

Today we have a guest post from Riyah Speaks! She is a lifestyle blogger who talks about the importances of self care & our mental / physical wellbeing. I hope you enjoy reading her post & to check out her blog!

Our lives are so jam-packed with business and chaos that we tend to put ourselves on the back burner sometimes. Regardless of who you are, you should always put yourself first. As I mentioned in my post about the dimensions of self-care, not practicing self-care can lead to mental health issues, sickness, and even death.

Self-Care isn’t a chore that must be completed at all times of the day. There are simple and quick ways that you can practice self-car without interrupting your daily routines or work schedule. Here are 05 self-care habits for living a healthy life daily.

Daily Self-Care Habits To Use

Practice Deep Breathing

When you breathe deeply, it sends a message to your brain to calm down and relax, and this message is sent to the body.  It also comes with major health benefits such as pain relief, improved immunity, lower blood pressure, posture correction, and increased energy.

Here are a few deep breathing exercises to try

  • Focus on positive imagery
  • Slow down your breathing
  • Alternate breathing from nose and mouth

Practice Gratitude

Being grateful means that you focus on the positive aspects of your life without contempt. Gratitude celebrates what you can do now, and avoids dwelling on decisions you could have made previously. The point of practicing gratitude is to get in the habit of changing your mindset, blocking negative energy, and gaining a higher sense of self-worth. There are many ways to cultivate gratitude, and my favorite way is with a gratitude journal.

Take Breaks

Taking breaks is important for maintaining your emotional and mental wellbeing. It allows your brain to recover from being overworked and stressed. It’s important to take breaks as necessary to avoid experiencing mood swings, lack of motivation, and extreme exhaustion. Taking breaks regularly increases productivity, boosts mood and energy, and helps to maintain your body’s performance throughout the day. Take about 10-15 minutes a day to be with yourself and to do nothing. Trust me, it’ll help you in the long run.

Journal

For the sake of mental health, everyone should journal. Journaling helps with clearing up scrambled thoughts and ideas, boosts creativity, and comprehends your emotions.

Take some time before and at the end of the day to reflect on your mood, mental state, and health. Think about why you’re feeling a particular way and what you can do to address those emotions. There are many different styles of journaling such as: bullet journals, art journals, diaries..etc. Find the format that works best for you and your wellbeing needs.

Eat Healthy and Drink Water

It’s important to eat healthy and drink water whenever you can. Healthy eating and drinking water leads to an overall healthier lifestyle and decreases your chances of developing obesity, diabetes, certain cancers, and high blood pressure later in life. Also, studies have found that making healthier drinking and eating choices boosts self-confidence, self-love, and self-worth.

Why is Self Care Important?

Self-care is important because it helps you maintain a healthy lifestyle.  It helps you to produce feelings of happiness and transmit those feelings to the people around you. With our daily schedules becoming jam-packed with school, work, and family, it’s even more important now to make sure that you take time off to practice self-care and to be alone.

I get it. Sometimes you just don’t want to or don’t have time. That’s why you must find small and convenient ways you can incorporate it into your daily routine. Self-care isn’t meant to be disruptive or inconvenient to your life. It’s there to relieve the pressure off your back and to make being active easier.
